 La filiation de nos écoles, est-elle vraiment importante ?

Je lis régulièrement des articles sur l'importance de connaître notre filiation dans le BJJ comme dans la Luta Livre. Pas d'inquiétude, les arts asiatiques sont également dans le même état d'esprit. Savoir d'où l'on vient pour savoir où l'on va.

J'ai la chance d'avoir une "ligne" sympa autant en Jiujitsu (Alliance avec mon Sensei Orla Jr) qu'en Luta Livre (Brunocilla - FST avec mon Mestre Peroba). Pourtant, mes élèves qui viennent à l'académie pourraient être particulièrement déçus s'ils venaient pour suivre les enseignements d'un style ou d'une école. Même si mes professeurs m'ont apporté beaucoup et m'ont enseigné de nombreuses techniques et logiques martiales, je ne suis pas Flavio ou Orla. Pour ceux qui les connaissent, ils ont un niveau exceptionnel, ils ont une façon de combattre qui leur correspond.

Ma jambe fait 40% du poids de Flavio, même si j'adore sa façon de lutter, je ne suis pas lui et mes élèves n'auront qu'un filtre de ce que j'ai compris et adapté de son enseignement. Il y a des moments même où je me dis que je ne suis qu'un "mauvais" élève quand je vois la façon dont je transmets "ma" Luta Livre et "mon" Jiujitsu. Beaucoup de leurs techniques ne correspondent pas à mon jeu, à mes sensations, même si je connais voire maîtrise certaines d'entre elles, j'ai dû les adapter, les transformer.

Au bout du compte, je ne retransmets pas le système technique de mes prédécesseurs. Et à votre avis, est-ce que les "affiliés" de chez Carlson Gracie n'ont-ils pas développé un jeu en garde (voir les vidéos sur YouTube) alors que la philosophie, pendant des années, a été la pression du passeur ?

Le Jiujitsu et la Luta Livre évoluent, Orla ne travaille plus comme quand il était en France et Flavio, ce génie, change sans cesse son jeu. Au niveau mondial, le BJJ d'Alliance version Gurgel, n'est pas celui de Marcelino et encore moins ceux de Malfacine ou Lepri.

Il y a un paradoxe entre l'histoire, la culture de son style/école et l'évolution de la discipline ainsi que la personnalité du pratiquant/enseignant que nous sommes. Alors, même en restant le plus respectueux possible envers nos professeurs, est-ce que la filiation sera nécessairement gage de qualité ou d'un bon enseignement ? Je ne le pense pas, je n'ai pas les qualités de Flavio ni même celles d'Orla. J'ai ma façon de faire, ma vision des choses, certaines choses qui font ma spécificité (In Turtle I trust 😉).

Et vous, comment voyez-vous et vivez-vous l'histoire de votre école ?

I regularly read articles about the importance of knowing our lineage in BJJ as well as in Luta Livre. No worries, Asian martial arts are also in the same mindset. Knowing where we come from to know where we are going.

I am fortunate to have a nice "lineage" both in Jiujitsu (Alliance with my Sensei Orla Jr) and in Luta Livre (Brunocilla - FST with my Mestre Peroba). However, my students who come to the academy might be particularly disappointed if they came to follow the teachings of a style or a school. Even though my teachers have taught me a lot and have taught me many techniques and martial logics, I am not Flavio or Orla. For those who know them, they have an exceptional level, they have a way of fighting that suits them.

My leg weighs 40% of Flavio's weight, even though I love his way of fighting, I am not him, and my students will only have a filter of what I have understood and adapted from his teaching. There are even moments when I think I am just a "bad" student when I see how I transmit "my" Luta Livre and "my" Jiujitsu. Many of their techniques do not fit my game, my sensations, even though I know or even master some of them, I had to adapt them, transform them.

In the end, I do not transmit the technical system of my predecessors. And in your opinion, do the "affiliates" of Carlson Gracie not develop a guard game (see videos on YouTube) when the philosophy, for years, was about pressure passing?

Jiujitsu and Luta Livre are evolving, Orla no longer works the way he did when he was in France, and Flavio, that genius, constantly changes his game. At the world level, Alliance's BJJ under Gurgel is not the same as Marcelino's or even those of Malfacine or Lepri.

There is a paradox between the history, the culture of one's style/school, and the evolution of the discipline, as well as the personality of the practitioner/teacher that we are. So, even while remaining as respectful as possible to our teachers, will lineage necessarily be a guarantee of quality or good teaching? I don't think so, I don't have the qualities of Flavio or even Orla. I have my way of doing things, my vision of things, some things that make me unique (In Turtle I trust 😉).
